Planes, tanks, bombs and bullets – Tauranga goes to war

Relive the battlefields of 1944 when the landing of Allied forces lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.   Classic Flyers are setting the scene for 2009 with re-enactments so real you’ll think that you’re on the beaches of Normandy.

D-Day will take place at Tauranga Airport on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June.  On Saturday you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Aviation and Military Museums.  The main hangar at Classic Flyers is the venue for the D-Day Dinner on Saturday night where you can meet the D-Day crew and pilots, while enjoying a two course dinner and entertainment.

There will also be live demonstrations of military vehicles and a hive of activity as the re-enacting troops and aviators set up camp and prepare for Sunday’s spectacular battles.

Sunday really is D-Day in Tauranga.  Don’t miss the two live battles at 11:45am and 1:30pm, featuring machine guns, World War II fighter planes and an airborne assault from a DC3.  D-Day promises to be a great day of entertainment for the whole family.

“It’s going to be an action packed weekend" says Andrew Gormlie, CEO of Classic Flyers.  “There is just so much going on, from the weapons display on Saturday to the paratroopers on Sunday”.

Tickets are great value at $5.00 for kids, $10.00 for adults and $25.00 for a family ticket (2 adults 3 kids); D-Day Dinner tickets cost $30.00 per person.  Gates open at 10:00am, to purchase tickets call Classic Flyers on (07) 572 4000 - your ticket covers admission on both days.
